Position Title: Park Maintenance Worker II – Golf Course Irrigation Technician Cordova Recreation & Park District is seeking a dedicated individual to join the Cordova Golf Course Maintenance team. Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, inspection, modification, maintenance and repair of golf course irrigation systems. The incumbent also performs a variety of skilled and specialized work in the maintenance and operation of Cordova Golf Course; performing other greens keeper duties as required (e.g. mowing greens, tee boxes, fairways and rough).

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Inspect, repair, maintain and modify existing golf course irrigation systemProgram and manage irrigation controllersOperate manual quick couplers and hosesDiagnose and troubleshoot problems with field units that may include controllers, irrigation heads, valves and related systemsOperate trenching equipment; backhoe, front-end loader, breaker hammers, power cutters and other equipment used to dig irrigation line trenchesRepair multiple types of irrigation pipes such as PVC, galvanized, copper, steel and cement Perform plumbing repairs such as installing and repairing drinking fountains, toilets and sinks Order and stock irrigation parts and equipmentRoutinely inspect irrigation and potable water system(s), mechanical equipment and other golf course facilities and equipment as requiredRepair greens with seed and/or new grass plugs as neededGrade and prepare soil base, lay sod and seed greens, tees and fairwaysAssist with skilled, semi-skilled and manual labor as it pertains to landscaping, custodial and other crafts as requiredAssist the Golf Course Superintendent in planning, assigning and coordinating the work of part-time employees and volunteer crews working in irrigation, maintenance, construction and repair workMaintain a safe, clean and well-organized workspace, parts inventory room, pump station and service vehicleMaintain accurate written records, reports and logsPerform similar and incidental duties as assignedReport all problems and issues to the Golf Course Superintendent
  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience (position requirements at entry): Equivalent to graduation from high school or GEDTwo (2) years of full-time professional experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of golf course irrigation Experience in plumbing and pipefittingWorking knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems, including valves, controllers, pumps and pumping systems Experience with large-scale landscape maintenance and installation projectsBasic understanding of agronomy and turf-grass scienceKnowledge in the safe operation and calibration of the following:Pressurized spray equipmentHand-operated rotary spreadersHand-operated drop spreadersMechanically operated utility tractors and spreadersMust possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Compensation: $43,884.00-$56,004.00 Annually plus a wide array of employee benefits including fully paid employee and dependent medical, dental, and vision along with Basic Life & AD&D Insurance, Long-term disability insurance, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, and an Employee Assistance Program. The District contracts with the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. POSITION OVERVIEW: The landscape manager is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating and implementing comprehensive maintenance plans and budgets for the landscaping at The Springs for the enjoyment of members and guests. This individual will supervise, train and assist work crews, manage various projects and deal directly with clients.


  • Hires, manages, trains and schedules staff, subcontractors and equipment
  • Inspects completed work, as well as make decisions on soil, plant species, layouts and designs
  • Oversees the completion of quality work in a timely manner
  • Communicates effectively with the landscape team to ensure tasks and instructions are understood
  • Interfaces with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of job materials
  • Ensures that landscape team members are completing the tasks at hand within reasonable and required time frames
  • Responsible for procuring required tools, equipment and supplies
  • Completes yearly budgets and reports
  • Recommends the selection of planting color based on seasonal changes
  • Trouble-shoots both system issues and horticulture
  • Detects and takes appropriate measures to eradicate diseases affecting lawns, plants and trees
  • Facilitates the work order process submitted by members
  • Develops and maintains an Inventory Control System
  • Promotes the highest level of safety with staff
  • Ensures staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions
  • Ensure that all machinery is clean, serviced, maintained in good working condition, and stored correctly in the proper environment in a neat and orderly manner.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a horticultural environment
  • A minimum of 3 years’ project management or similar related experience
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and pleasant demeanor with crew and members
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal
  • Ability to work independently as well as with groups of people such as members, employees, and management
  • Characteristics such as assertiveness, good judgement, respected, self-confidence, self-starter, adaptable
  • Technical skills such as product knowledge, services, plant materials, production/culture, diseases/insects
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Must have a valid driver’s license


  • Landscape architecture background preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Must have an Associate’s degree (preferably in the Green Industry)
  • Horticulture Program including soil science, weed management-preferred
  • Must have 4 years of practical landscape installation experience in the field
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of landscape installation methods and techniques
  • Excellent working knowledge of equipment, tools and labor needed to accomplish work
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and previous supervisory experience


  • Must be able to operate equipment specified above, walk extended distances and work in varying outdoor conditions (extreme heat, dry, wet, cold)
  • In addition, must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects not exceeding 50 pounds
  • Repetitive movement- standing, walking, twisting, turning, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, or reach for intermittent periods
  • Ability to climb and lift for intermittent periods
  • Repetitive movement of arm at should for intermittent periods
  • Repetitive movement of both hands for intermittent periods
  • Ability to twist neck and/or body for intermittent periods
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended period of time
  • Requires climbing up step stools
  • Occasional exposure to chemical products
