The Opportunity: We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Chemical Spray Technician to join our elite Golf Course Maintenance team. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the pristine condition and playability of our golf course, utilizing advanced turf management practices and responsible chemical applications.
Key Responsibilities: The Chemical Spray Technician will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and aesthetics of our turfgrass and surrounding landscapes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Pesticide and Fertilizer Application: Accurately mixing, calibrating, and applying a variety of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers to greens, tees, fairways, and other designated areas, adhering strictly to label instructions and safety protocols.
- Turf Health Monitoring: Regularly inspecting turf and plant health, identifying diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, and proactively recommending and implementing corrective treatments.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operating and maintaining a range of spray equipment, including mechanically pressurized sprayers, hand-operated equipment, and utility tractors. Performing routine safety inspections and ensuring all equipment is clean and in optimal working order.
- Record Keeping & Compliance: Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all chemical applications, including products used, rates, dates, and areas treated, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Safety & Training: Adhering to all safety guidelines and regulations, including maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and participating in ongoing safety training and emergency drills.
- Collaboration: Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to develop and execute comprehensive turf management programs.
- General Golf Course Maintenance: Assisting with other golf course maintenance tasks as needed to support the overall upkeep and playability of the course.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as a Chemical Spray Technician in a golf course setting.
- Current and valid California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Certificate (QAC) is required as well as a current California Driver License.
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, including common diseases, pests, and nutrient requirements.
- Proficiency in the safe and effective operation and calibration of various chemical application equipment.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret chemical labels and MSDS.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and best management practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a highly dedicated team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, and walking for extended periods.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
